What to Expect
Laying the foundation
Chiropractic care is like building a house – certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .
Type 1: Relief Care/Patch Care
If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. Depending on the severity of your problem, it is typical to need care 3-4 times per week for for 2-3 weeks.
Type 2: Corrective Care or Spinal Remodeling
Adjustments are wonderful for improving range of motion and reducing or eliminating pain. However, in order to improve the structure of the spine to a stronger, more stable, and healthier state, all the components of the human frame that contribute to body structure must be addressed. These include; muscles, ligaments, tendons as well as bone and joints. We exercise the muscles which support your spine as well as provide all the phases of care needed to improve overall structure and function. We apply gentle forces over time to gradually change the length of ligaments to support the new improved position. We modify lifestyle such as sleeping position, driving and computer posture, even how you sit and watch TV. In addition, we help patients learn how best to exercise for their particular condition. This approach has been scientifically proven to be very effective in providing a sustained remodeling of the spine, producing spinal strength, stability and improved function
Type 3: Wellness Care
Once your body has fully healed, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to avoid problems in the future. Usually, this only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor 1x time per month, based on your lifestyle and goals.
